In March there is an amazing photo of Selwicks Bay, East Yorkshire, part of Flamborough Head, the northernmost chalk outcrop in Britain. Famed for the many seabirds, the chalk cliffs have been eroded into gullies, spurs, caves and arches and even a blow hole. At the foot of the cliffs is a 1km-long sand and pebble beach with rock pools at low tide. In December we have a view of Ribblehead Viaduct, Yorkshire Dales, silhouetted against a fiery sky as it makes a dramatic sweep across wild, snowy moorland. The limestone landscape includes limestone pavements, deep potholes and underground cave systems. The 24-arch viaduct carries the Settle to Carlisle Railway over the River Ribble. Perhaps England’s most scenic railway, it opened in 1876, built by 6,000 men.
