Wildlife Memo Calendar Overview

Enchanting images of wildlife from all over the UK, from the abundant to the rare species, are brought to you in the Wildlife Memo calendar. All the wild creatures are portrayed in their natural habitat - woodland, fields, moorland, mountains, rivers and coasts.

The small pearl-bordered fritillary is depicted in one photo. This butterfly gets its name from the rows of 'pearls' on the underside of its hindwings. It is found in damp, grassy habitats, woodland clearings and moorland. The adults fly low to the ground, taking nectar from bramble and thistle flowers. Another photo shows a rabbit, native to Britain and Europe. This endearing mammal with a grey-brown coat and long incisors lives in big colonies of 2-10 members in a warren, a complex network of dug-out burrows with living chambers. It emerges to graze grass and vegetation mostly at dawn and dusk. In the clear hierarchy, the dominant males are the top breeders. A breeding pair of rabbits can produce 4-7 litters a year, up to 40 offspring.
