January’s image is of a sunrise Lakeland vista over Loughrigg Fell, Cumbria. This fell sits in a prominent, isolated position at the junction of five major valley systems, with panoramic views of the Central Fells and the Langdale Pikes. Loughrigg Tarn below, is a beautiful, secluded tarn, almost circular in form, with many aquatic plants around the margins. Shown in the opposing photo, the peregrine falcon is a stunning bird in flight. It inhabits mountainous terrain, moorland and cliffs and is a skilful hunter, circling high overhead and dramatically swooping down to feed on smaller birds.
