For example, July's page features an atmospheric image of the riverside in Hertford at sunrise on a misty summer morning. Trees and vegetation on the riverbanks are mirrored in the River Lea which lies at the confluence of four river valleys. The town still has its medieval layout with a castle and historic buildings. The marshes and meadows are a rich habitat for wildlife such as the mute swan, seen gliding gracefully on the river. It is not very vocal, communicating by grunts and hisses. Swans usually mate for life and take turns in parenting and the mother will carry young cygnets on her back.
