The Cheviot Hills, rolling from the Northumberland National Park across the border into Scotland, are an area of wild and expansive windswept uplands and green tranquil valleys, viewed here beyond a field of pale pink poppies. The hedgerows and woodlands are an ideal habitat for the elusive hedgehog, which often travels long distances between different nests. It has a coat of stiff, sharp spines and if threatened, it will curl into a prickly ball to deter predators.
