Westerdale in the North York Moors is featured in one splendid image. This lush dale is overlooked by wild, high moorland, vividly clad in heather in summer. Small streams, the Esklets, flow down from the moors to join the River Esk in Westerdale, the westernmost dale in the Esk Valley. The moors are dotted with ancient monuments such as prehistoric standing stones and the Flat Howe tumulus, an ancient burial site. Another lovely photo is of the Peak District market town of Bakewell, Derbyshire. Set amid wooded hills rising to moorland, it has a fine church, a medieval five-arched bridge over the River Wye and many fascinating historic buildings. Bakewell Pudding was invented here in 1859 and is widely available in local bakeries and shops.
