One photo shows the River Strule at Newtonstewart, Co. Tyrone. Overlooked by hills, Newtonstewart lies on the River Strule. The arched stone bridge was built in 1727. The Main Street linked the church at one end of the village with the castle at the other - both were destroyed in conflicts in 1641 and 1689. The castle was never rebuilt and remains an impressive ruin, with three angular crow-stepped gables. Another image depicts Crom Castle, Co. Fermanagh. Surrounded by beautiful parkland and small wooded islands on the shores of Upper Lough Erne, Crom Castle was built in the 19th century for the Earls of Erne, with magnificent turrets and battlements. The ruins of Crom Old Castle, besieged in 1689 by the Jacobites, stand on the lough shore. Crom Estate is an important nature conservation area.
