June’s image is of the Moffat Hills, Dumfries and Galloway. Part of the Southern Uplands are grouped in a rough triangle, bordered on their south-east side by Moffat Water, and on the west-south-west side by the River Annan and River Tweed. The hills are home to some superb, rugged landscapes, with a stunning range of wildlife. Tioram Castle, Loch Moidart, Lochaber, Highland is featured on September’s page. It is situated in a strategic location on a rocky tidal island of Eilean Tioram, at the confluence of Loch Moidart and the River Shiel. The castle – a listed building and scheduled ancient monument – is the traditional seat of the Clan MacDonald. The castle can be reached on foot across the tidal causeway.
