July's image is of Dornoch Coastline, Highland. This delightful historic town on the Dornoch Firth and Moray Firth is set amidst wonderful scenery: a rocky coastline and miles of golden sandy beaches stretching from Dornoch Point to the Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve. In September there's a stunning image of the Pentland Hills, near Edinburgh, Lothian, clad in purple heather. This area of upland pasture and forestry stretching southwest of Edinburgh supports diverse wildlife habitats: mosses and lichens, insects and mammals. These rolling, heather clad hills with reddish tops are a popular excursion for walkers. Scald Law is the highest peak in the Pentlands at 579m.
